Open Youth Performance

EVENT FUN CLASSES:

Gambler’s Choice- Entry is $5 per llama or alpaca. This is a timed obstacle course held LIVE on Saturday evening after the HLAA meeting/Earl Wells Award/Youth Scholarship. Do what you can to get your Llama or Alpaca through the course and complete as many obstacles as you can. First Place gets the pot!!

Open Costume: An open costume class will take place on Saturday evening around 5pm. This will take place after the show breaks and before the live HLAA meeting and Gambler’s Choice. Make sure to have a script or music submitted to the announcer’s stand.

         Pay to Show Showmanship – Pay $10 and nominate any person present to show in this special class held on Saturday evening. They may show any llama of their choice. If the nominee chooses not to show in the class, they may opt out for a $20 fee. This is a FUN class and all proceeds go toward the HLAA youth scholarships. Entry money will be taken at the show.

Versatility Award- Entry is $10 for both adult and youth. Adult classes considered will be halter, showmanship, and 3 performance classes. Youth classes considered will be showmanship, youth judging, and 3 performance classes. The highest point-earning youth or animal will win but must be entered. NEW FOR 2024 – We are restructuring the way versatility points are awarded to make it fair for ALL class sizes!!!!

SHOW INFORMATION:

 

  • Best of Show Male and Female- All halter Grand Champions Compete.
  • Gambler’s Choice– Entry is $5 per llama or alpaca. This is a timed obstacle course held LIVE on Saturday evening after the HLAA meeting/Earl Wells Award/Youth Scholarship. Order will be drawn randomly ahead of time. Do what you can to get your Llama or Alpaca through the course and complete as many obstacles as you can. First Place gets the pot!!
  • Pay to Show Showmanship (NEW THIS YEAR)- Pay $10 and nominate any person present to show in this special class held on Saturday evening. They may show any llama of their choice. If the nominee chooses not to show in the class, they may opt out for a $20 fee. This is a FUN class and all proceeds go toward the HLAA youth scholarships. Entry money will be taken at the show.
  • Leaping Llama & Llama Limbo– Will be held on Friday after youth judging. See how high or low they can go! Alpacas and Llamas are welcome to be part of this class.
  • Silent Auction- This will be during the show day on both Saturday and Sunday. This is to help our Youth Scholarship program. Auction ends at noon on Sunday.
  • Fiber Art- Submissions will be on display for all show participants to vote on throughout the weekend! One vote per person. Voting ends at noon on Sunday and the top 3 will be placed.
  • Costume- An open costume class will take place on Saturday evening around 5pm. This will take place after the show breaks and before Gambler’s Choice. Make sure to have a script or music submitted to the announcer’s stand.
  • Open Youth Classes- There will be 3 age divisions available (A-7-10, B-11-14, C-15-18). Classes will take place on Saturday beginning at 10 am. Entrants may NOT show in ALSA or ILR classes. An animal may be used in the ILR/ALSA show and the open show. One open youth Grand and Reserve Champion will be awarded.

  • Sponsorship is a very important part of our show. Each sponsor will be announced during our show and name placed in the show catalog. Thank you for helping, we can’t do this show without your help!
  • Join or re-join HLAA right now with your entries, and you are paid up for the year of 2024. You get 3 months free if joining. (If you have a membership already you can renew now)
  • Health Requirements: All animals coming from out of state must have a veterinarian health certificate dated within 30 days of exhibition.
  • Eligibility: All llamas must have ILR certificates except for animals for Youth or non-breeder ALSA classes. Proof of ownership must be provided. If you are showing an animal owned by someone else, the owner must sign the entry form.
  • Show Rules: This is a Dual sanctioned ILR & ALSA show. Clerking is not an easy job!! Therefore, you must be a current member of ALSA unless competing in the open youth classes. A ‘pending’ ALSA number will not be accepted. ALSA allows youth one show per year free! The show will run according to the rules/guidelines in the ALSA current edition handbook and the current edition of the ILR Show Division guidelines.
  • Arrival: Arrival time for all exhibitors starts at 12pm on Friday. Stalls will be pre-assigned.
  • Stalling: 9×9 stalls located in the cattle barn, 2 adults per stall and 3 juveniles per stall. Exhibitors will provide their own bedding. And clean out your bedding before you leave.
  • Departure: All bedding must be put outside in the bunker at the end of barn before departure. Please!
  • Manure: Please do not put any straw, hay or manure in trash cans! Leave all bedding, manure, and hay in the bunker near the barn.
  • Wool & age Division: Each animal must be entered in its appropriate age and wool division as specified in the ALSA & ILR Guidelines. Animal wool division may not be changed after entries close unless moved with the approval of the judge.

Suri: The fiber of a Suri Llama should have a natural luster and hang and drape over the llamas body, forming a natural part along the spine. The fibers are grouped into a very distinctive and well defined lock structure, which is indicated by the many individual separate locks of fiber formed at the skin and carrying out to the ends of each lock.

Silky: Then fiber exhibits a very soft or silky handle, may exhibit some wave or crinkle but not crimp, and may exhibit some loft and luster. Guard hair is nearly indiscernible and coverage may vary from light to heavy.

Classic/Light: Minimal body wool, short neck wool with smooth legs.

Medium: Moderate to long body wool, minimal to moderate neck wool, smooth to moderate leg wool.

Heavy/Extremely Heavy: Abundant body and neck wool with minimal to abundant leg wool.

Non-Breeder, Get of Sire, Produce of Dam: See association guidelines with questions.

  • Performance Classes:

An animal may only be shown in one performance class/division, except for Sub-Jr.

Novice Class: Now the same for both Associations. No more than 4 Grand/Reserves.

Advanced and Masters may be combined depending on entries.

  • Camping: Hook up is available right outside the show barn and stalling area for $30 per night.

Followed by Halter classes, break for lunch depending on schedule. Performance will begin, time permitting.

8 am-                   Silent Auction & Fiber Craft check in

10 am-                 Open Youth classes begin, starting with Showmanship, Pack, PR, Obstacle (stall barn)

5 pm-                   Classes end for Costume, Earl Wells Award, Youth Scholarship

Immediately followed by LIVE GAMBLERS CHOICE & PAY TO SHOW SHOWMANSHIP, music, games, and food
